Nine FAU Football Players Named to Athlon Sports All-Conference Teams

Reggie Bain, Trey Hendrickson and Dalton Schomp headline the nine Florida Atlantic University football players recognized by Athlon Sports on the 2016 Conference USA pre-season team.

The first team trio bring resumes to the selection that is second to none. Bain, from Miami, Fla, was a second team Conference USA selection in 2015 as a sophomore offensive lineman and was a freshman All-American in 2014. Defensive lineman Hendrickson, from Apopka, Fla., led the league in sacks a year ago and was No. 2 nationally. The 2016 First Team C-USA honoree is FAU’s single-season and career sacks leader. Schomp, from Seminole, Fla., led the nation a year ago with a 48.0 yards per punt average. The 2015 First Team C-USA selection was the Owls Special Team MVP.

Kelly Parfitt, a third team offensive line Athlon selection, transferred to FAU after playing his first two seasons at UCF. The Boca Raton native saw time at both center and right tackle a year ago. On the defensive side of the ball, four players, all rising sophomores, were named to the third team defense. Defensive lineman Hunter Snyder, from Palm Harbor, Fla, was the second lineman selected from a line that guided the team to the most single-season sacks in the program’s 15-year history. Snyder was joined by Azeez Al-Shaair, a linebacker who burst on the scene in 2015 to earn C-USA recognition as well as USA Today Freshman All-American honors. Fellow members of the class of 2015 and C-USA honoreesOcie Rose, from Miami, Fla., and Jalen Young, from Belle Glade, Fla., were recognized on the third team as defensive backs.

FAU’s lone fourth team selection was center Dillon DeBoer. DeBoer a three-year FAU starter, moved from guard to center just two games into the 2015 campaign and became the everyday snapper. DeBoer, a senior from Tarpon Springs, Fla., is listed on the 2016 Rimington Watch List and was one of 12 selected league wide as a C-USA All-Academic member. DeBoer graduated in May with a degree in Finance and is enrolled in FAU’s graduate program.
